Youth soccer teams from across the region will descend upon El Paso this weekend for the 16th Annual Academy Sports + Outdoors Sun Bowl International Soccer Tournament. Over 130 teams will convene at the Westside Sports Complex beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 5, for the three-day tournament.
“Soccer is an important part of our El Paso culture,” Sun Bowl Association Executive Director Bernie Olivas said. “We are pleased to be able to continue growing this event for the development of the sport in this region. The Sun Bowl Association is fortunate to have the support of our sponsor. Academy Sports + Outdoors shares our passion for this community and values the importance of athletics in our youth.”
Games will begin at 12 p.m. on Saturday and 8:00 a.m. Sunday in the 23-field Westside Sports Complex.
Academy Sports + Outdoors, with two locations in the city, is in the seventh year of sponsoring the international affair that is open to all U6 to U19 boys and girls teams in the region. The competition ranges from recreational to very competitive in every age group.
The Sun Bowl Association and Academy Sports + Outdoors are joined by the City of El Paso, the El Paso Parks and Recreation Department, the El Paso Youth Soccer Association and Fort Bliss to bring the highest level of competition to the children of El Paso.
