EL PASO, Texas – The Sun Bowl Association and the Southwest Flag Football League are ready for the Second Annual Sun Bowl Adult Flag Football tournament in El Paso, Texas, Friday-Sunday, August 19-21.
The tournament, which will be played at the Westside Sports Complex, features 50 teams playing in various levels. The tournament levels are as follows: Men’s (recreational, intermediate, competitive), Women’s (competitive), and Coed (recreational) divisions.
“In it’s second year of existence, we have seen the field grow from 35 teams to 50 teams,” said SBA Executive Director Bernie Olivas. “We believe we have seen the number of teams grow because of the quality of the tournament.”
Play will start on Friday evening at 5 p.m. (MT) with the Coed teams facing off for the championship belt and cash prize. The men’s teams and women’s division starts on Saturday at 10 a.m. (MT) with the championships starting at 9 a.m. (MT) on Sunday, Aug. 21.
“We hope we continue to see this event grow and are really excited to put on another great community event this weekend to showcase El Paso and our community’s hospitality,” Special Events Director Joe Daubach said.
Rosters will consist of 14 members, who are ready to compete in this 8-on-8 flag football tournament. All participants will receive a tournament gift bag with various commemorative items. The first-place teams in all divisions will receive a tournament championship belt and championship cups.
The winner of the Men’s A – Competitive Division & Women’s A – Competitive Division will receive monetary payouts. Monetary prizes awarded will be based on the size of the bracket. The champion of the competitive bracket with up to 16 teams will receive a $2,000 payout and the champion of a 32-plus-team bracket will receive $4,000. The winner of the Men’s B – Intermediate Division, Men’s C – Recreations Division and Coed C –Recreational Division will earn $1,000.
