2022-23 SUN COURT RECENTLY ANNOUNCED August 15, 2022

EL PASO, Texas – The Sun Bowl Association announced the 2022-23 Sun Court, including a new Sun Queen, Lady-in-Waiting, and Sun Princesses on Friday, Aug. 5 at the El Paso Country Club.

Eight new Sun Princesses join the 2022-23 Sun Court, along with the new Sun Queen, Analisa Quinonez and Lady-in-Waiting Jazmin Jayme as ambassadors for the Sun Bowl Association, while also representing the City of El Paso.

“Our Sun Court is a very important part of our association and events,” said Executive Director Bernie Olivas. “This is another strong group of young women who will make a difference in our community and beyond.”

The Sun Court Coronation has been a part of the Sun Bowl since the first-ever college Sun Bowl game played in 1936. Coronation played a huge social role in the “Sun Carnival”, the week-long pageantry associated with the Sun Bowl.

According to the 1938 Sun Bowl game program, “The social side of the Sun Carnival centers around the Coronation of the Sun Queen with her Lady-In-Waiting and Royal Court of Princesses from all the cities of the Sun Empire and the Grand Ball tendered by the Association in honor of Her Majesty and Court.”

Today, the Sun Court serves as ambassadors for the city of El Paso. The ladies of the court volunteer at various community events and make appearances at the Glasheen, Valles & Inderman Sun Bowl Parade, WestStar Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational, Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl, Helen of Troy Charm Camp and many other events throughout the year.

LADY-IN-WAITING
Jazmin Jayme is an El Paso native and the daughter of Arturo and Diana Jayme. A rising senior at the University of Texas at El Paso majoring in Finance with a concentration in Risk Management. Her academic achievements include being on the Dean’s List, receiving the College of Business Scholarship and the UTEP scholarship. Jazmin is 1 of 7 students from UTEP accepted to participate in the UTIMCO Scholar Program Summer Program in 2021. Jazmin was granted the opportunity to intern with two different companies this summer. Her first internship program was based out of Dallas, Texas with Amwins Brokerage firm, where she attended IICF conferences and researched emerging business markets. Jazmin then went on to her second internship in New York, New York with Eminence Capital, LP. There she has collaborated with several teams to better understand how investing firms work. Her on campus engagements include being the President of both Alpha Xi Delta and Gamma lota Sigma. Jazmin says it’s an honor to represent her native city of El Paso as the 2022 Lady-In-Waiting.

2022 SUN QUEEN
Analisa Quinonez is the daughter of Cesar and Monica Montes Quinonez. A rising junior at the University of Texas at El Paso majoring in Rehabilitation sciences with a concentration in Speech Language Pathology. Analisa is an El Paso High Alumni who graduate from the distinguished dual language magnet. Her passion for the dual language program led her to become a Spanish tutor at Mesita Elementary School for kindergarten and first grade students. Analisa is proud of her beautiful city and takes pride in showcasing El Paso’s history through dance at Viva El Paso for the past 4 years. Her community service involvement includes being the Service Chair, Ritual Chairman, Treasurer, VP III Membership Chairman, and VP I Coordinator of Committees for Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She has worked with the American Cancer Society and Zeta Tau Alpha to raise money for breast cancer awareness and education. Analisa is also a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success Sigma Alpha Pi Association, as well as a Student Organization Support Intern for the Student Engagement and Leadership Center at UTEP. Analisa grew up dreaming of becoming a member of the Sun Court as she has helped greet basketball and football players as a folklorico dancer. Watching the Sun Court represent the Sun Bowl Association and be role models for young girls, Analisa was inspired to be a role model just like they were for her. As Sun Queen Analisa is excited to be an ambassador for the city she loves and shine a light on who great El Paso is.
