EL PASO, Texas – An estimated crowd of 240,000 people from around the borderland gathered along Montana Ave. on Thanksgiving Day to enjoy an 82-year El Paso tradition.
Families and friends from El Paso and the surrounding area lined Montana Ave. in central El Paso before the sunrise to set up their chairs and get the best view of the parade. There were approximately 85 units in the parade including floats, marching bands, fire trucks, and monster trucks.
The highlight of the parade was the Grand Marshal, WWE Superstar Sin Cara who was born and raised in El Paso’s Segundo Barrio. Fans cheered as he rode through the parade route, while others ran up to the vehicle he was riding in to get pictures and autographs.
“We cannot thank KTSM enough for another successful broadcast of the parade. It’s the best one we’ve seen in over 16 years,” said Executive Director of the Sun Bowl Association, Bernie Olivas. “The weather was absolutely perfect this year and the crowd was great as always. The community is the reason we do this, and they continue to help keep this tradition alive.”
